Ex-Stars Who Withdrew from the Public Eye to Lead Regular Lives
28 Mar 2023It is difficult to realize that celebrities who often graced our television screens once decided to disappear from view. But as it turned out, there are quite a few celebrities who have decided to find work outside of Hollywood. We suggest reading about some of them.
Erik Per Sullivan
After his time on Malcolm in the Middle, it appears that Sullivan made the decision to leave Hollywood, much like his former co-star Frankie Muniz.
After deciding that Hollywood wasn't for him, Sullivan proceeded to the University of Southern California to further his studies. At the age of 14, he left Malcolm in the Middle, and since choosing to concentrate on his education, he hasn't been on television again. His final performance was in 2006.

Religious activist Kirk Cameron
Kirk Cameron gained fame for his role as Mike Seaver on Growing Pains, but over time he lost interest in acting. Instead, he decided to focus on writing full-time and become a religious activist.
He converted to Christianity while working on Growing Pains and demanded that certain scripts be modified if he did not think they were acceptable. Recently, he has primarily been working on Christian documentaries.

Josh Saviano – Lawyer
He gained notoriety as a child actor in the 1980s for playing the bespectacled Paul Joshua Pfeiffer in the television series The Wonder Years. Josh had a relatively limited number of appearances in movies and television, and after The Wonder Years ended, his career as an actor came to an end.
After his final appearance on television in 1989, he majored in political science at Yale University. Despite making a cameo appearance on Law & Order in 2016, he ultimately became a corporate lawyer.

After making an appearance on The Real Housewives of New Jersey in 2014, Kevin discovered he liked his job as a contractor and went after it more. He also collaborated with the video-sharing app We Heart It and developed apps like the culinary app Yood.

Meghan Markle
When Meghan Markle was cast as Rachel Zane on Suits, her acting career really took off. When she later met Prince Harry, she made the decision to leave Hollywood behind, and they were married in 2018.
She and her husband Prince Harry recently made the decision to trade in their rich royal lifestyle for one that is more typical of Canadian life after a few years of doing so. With her soon-to-be one-year-old boy, Meghan hopes for a more private existence away from the spotlight.

MC Hammer – Public Speaker/Entrepreneur
MC Hammer is still well-known to most people even though his career peaked in the 1980s and 1990s. Despite his musical success, MC Hammer found it difficult to manage his money and eventually had to declare bankruptcy.
Fortunately, he was able to resolve everything, and today he officiates weddings, gives lectures at Ivy League Universities, and creates iPad apps. He's also starting a tour this year dedicated to 90s nostalgia.

Danny Lloyd – Biology Professor
He might have been the little boy from The Shining, but you might have been one of the students he was instructing in biology.
Danny Lloyd, who has matured considerably in his adult years, is now a biology professor in Kentucky as opposed to a famous person strolling the red carpet. He stopped acting two years after the debut of The Shining when he was just eight years old. He reportedly had no idea he was starring in a horror movie while The Shining was being filmed.

Carrie Henn is another former Hollywood celebrity who chose to become a teacher instead of pursuing a career there. When Henn was 10 years old, she co-starred in the movie Alien with Sigourney Weaver, but after that, she declared she would not act again.
She only managed to have a brief acting career and led a life devoid of Hollywood. Even though she stood out in the movie as the young girl, she later changed her career to teaching and is now employed in an Atwater, California school.

Brittany Ashton Holmes – Student/Barista
While the ensemble of The Little Rascals created a classic film, Brittany was the adorable young girl in the film, and it appears that her acting opportunities were limited when filming was completed.
Holmes' acting career was brief; she quit in 1996, barely two years after playing Darla in The Little Rascals. In 2016, Holmes was residing in Los Angeles, working as a barista at Starbucks, and pursuing a political science degree.

Jones Angus T.
On Two and a Half Men, he played the humorous youngster and even kept playing the lead part into his adolescence.
It appears that Jones changed his mind about acting and the show he was so well-known for as he got older and appeared in it for a total of ten years. Gleeson Jack
After three years of portraying King Joffrey on Game of Thrones, one of the most popular shows of the present, Jack Gleeson made the decision to end his acting career.
Fans applauded when Gleeson was killed off the series because he was one of the most despised characters on television. Gleeson announced he will end his acting career at the same time, claiming he no longer found it as enjoyable as it once was. Gleeson opted to attend college and study philosophy and religion instead.
Firefighter - Mike Vitar
Mike Vitar played a number of noteworthy roles in films during the 1990s, including The Sandlot and both of the sequels to the popular film The Mighty Ducks.

The former actor encountered legal issues in 2015 after he and several firefighters were accused of misdemeanor violence following an assault. He didn't challenge the accusations.

Anthony Steven Lawrence
In Even Stevens, which was Shia LaBeouf's breakthrough performance, Steven Anthony Lawrence was the irritating Beans. Although it was popular and ran from 2001 to 2003, the legendary Lawrence didn't have nearly as successful a career as LaBeouf. He has since made sporadic appearances, although his main source of income is giving seminars at USC, Berkeley, and high schools. Although he's moved on from playing Bean, he's expressed amazement that people continue to recognize him in public for his renowned role.

Dylan Sprouse, entrepreneur
Dylan Sprouse hasn't quite lived up to the expectations as an actor like his brother Cole has, despite the fact that he is best known for his parts in the television series Grace Under Fire and the film Big Daddy.
Despite this, the young man has succeeded in establishing a reputation for himself in fields other than performing, particularly in business. He founded his own company, All-Wise Meadery, after earning a degree in video game design from NYU's Gallatin School.

Cookbook author Freddie Prinze Jr.
Freddie Prinze Jr. was undoubtedly one of the most recognizable male adolescent stars of the 1990s if his wife Sarah Michelle Gellar was one of the most recognizable female ones. At one point, the She's All That star appeared to be everywhere.
But in the end, Freddie made the decision to move away from the spotlight in order to devote all of his time to his family. Prinze Jr. has since developed a love of cooking and even published his own bestselling cookbook in 2016.

Producer of films Karyn Parsons
On the popular television show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, she played Will Smith's cousin Hilary.
Parsons made the decision to give up acting in favor of pursuing another hobby after having a few more acting gigs in the years that followed her appearance on such a popular show in the 1990s. Parsons established her own business rather than appearing in front of the camera. The organization, Sweet Blackberry, supports animated movies about underappreciated black heroes.

In Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, he played the young Charlie Bucket, but this was to be Ostrum's only and final Hollywood performance.

Frankie Muniz
After having two mini-strokes in a single year, Frankie Muniz experienced acute memory loss. He reportedly has very little memory of playing the lead character on Malcolm in the Middle. The young actor went on to become a racecar driver and musician, but he gave up both of those careers to open a specialized store in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona called Outrageous Olive Oils & Vinegars. Even though he continued to make occasional cameos on television, it is obvious that his main focus has been managing the business with his partner Paige since he can't even recall his heyday as an actor.
Isaac Lidsky
Isaac Lidsky has achieved great things despite giving up performing to lead a normal life. He received a retinitis pigmentosa diagnosis immediately following his appearance as Weasel on Saved By the Bell: The New Class. He eventually lost his sight, but that didn't stop him from enrolling in Harvard at the age of 15 and earning degrees in computer science and applied mathematics. He returned to school and completed his legal education, ultimately becoming the first legally blind Supreme Court clerk. In addition to practicing law, he has founded a number of prosperous businesses.

He hasn't acted much since then though; instead, he prefers to work as an electrician on TV shows and film sets. Therefore, he didn't want to quit the business totally; he just preferred to keep his face out of the public eye. He also maintains a podcast with his former co-star, Little Pete actor Danny Tamberelli, called the Adventures of Danny and Mike because they remained close friends throughout the years.

Erik Estrada
The role of Officer Frank Poncherello in CHiPs, a popular police TV series from the late 1970s to early 1980s, is perhaps what makes Erik Estrada most famous. With almost 150 credits since then, he has remained active, although the role he is best known for encouraged him to pursue a profession in later life. He was sworn in as a police officer in St. Anthony, Idaho, in July 2016, in a case of reality mimicking art. Even before that, he served as a reserve officer and has gradually stopped performing over the past ten years.

Whiz Kids, a CBS sci-fi adventure program from the 1980s, was where Andrea Elson received her big break. She is most well-known for playing Lynn Tanner on the late 1980s television series ALF, which aired for four seasons. She progressively ceased performing in the 1990s, making fewer and fewer appearances. Evidently, she has happy memories of her time in the spotlight because she occasionally shares flashback photos and other sentimental content on social media. There doesn't appear to be any desire to resume acting. She currently runs a blog and travels the country teaching yoga.

After being cast in Full House, both Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit and his brother made the decision to quit acting. Like his brother, he also works as a sound technician now, but only after a protracted career as a firefighter in Georgia. Although he appears to have returned to the entertainment world as a result of Fuller House and has received some credits since the 2016 revival, it's obvious that he would want to avoid the spotlight. She has since appeared in a few movies, but by the time she turned 22 in 2001, she was overacting. She earned a sociology degree from the University of Virginia in 2010 and graduated. She bought a secluded country home in Sweden during her free time so she could concentrate on the things that were most important to her. Falskog studied astrology, practiced yoga, and rode horses during her stay in Ekero. She states that after going 13 years without singing, she started singing again.

Jon Gosselin
When Jon & Kate Plus 8 became popular, Jon Gosselin and his family gained notoriety. However, after his divorce from Kate, the network decided to go with Kate instead of him. Having lost his job, he returned to work. He worked multiple jobs at once as a waiter, DJ, and cook to support his family. He is apparently content despite a custody dispute with his ex-wife, has a girlfriend, and custody of two of his kids. Currently, if his LinkedIn profile is current, he works as an IT administrator.
Chris Owen
Chris Owen is most known for playing the Sherminator in the movie American Pie. He has withdrawn from the spotlight out of necessity ever since he went out of style, yet it doesn't seem to be voluntary. He still acts in B movies, but they don't pay the bills, so in addition to being a photographer, he has been seen waiting tables at Sushi Roku in Los Angeles. He most recently played a supporting role in the 2018 film Sharknado 8, so acting obviously doesn't pay the bills.

Do you recall Dale Arden from the Flash Gordon movie from the 1980s? That was Melody Anderson, who also appeared with Chuck Norris in the 1986 film Firewalker. She continued performing for a number of more successful years before giving up the profession in 1995 after her final role in Burke's Law. She returned to school at NYU in 1997 to pursue a social work degree after that. She currently focuses on family counseling in addition to giving talks on mental health and drug usage.

Ariana Richards rose to fame when she played the character of Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. She made the decision to stop acting in 2001 after that. She attended Skidmore College, where she received a degree in visual arts and drama, although she largely avoided acting, with the exception of a small appearance in 2013. She has been spending most of her time painting, which is considerably more laid back than being a famous actor.
Lawyer Charlie Korsmo
Charlie Korsmo's portrayal of Jack in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Peter Pan, Hook, is certain to live on in people's memories. It must have been a dream come true to be able to work with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman.
He eventually changed his mind, though, and enrolled at MIT before continuing on to Yale Law School. Korsmo is currently a professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Law and a licensed attorney.

A fashion designer is Amanda Bynes
The popular child star Amanda Bynes has a vast array of movies and television shows to her credit. However, Bynes faded from the public eye following a few court disputes and personal hardships.
The former She's The Man actress has given up acting to focus on her schooling and mental health while setting her sights on the fashion industry. She recently received her diploma from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California, and she intends to use her acting career as a springboard into the fashion industry.
Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen are fashion designers
While Mary-Kate and Ashley are pleased to divert their attention, their younger sister Elizabeth Olsen is undoubtedly carrying the acting torch for their family. Naturally, they are best known for having made their debut on sitcoms like Full House.
Ultimately though, the twins' acting careers petered out more than ten years ago, and ever since they launched their own clothing line, The Row, they have established a respectable career in fashion.
Father who stays at home, Rick Moranis
There is no disputing that Rick Moranis's decision to leave the acting industry was not made without some tragedy. The Honey I Shrunk the Kids actor was devastated when his wife Ann died in 1997 following a protracted fight with illness.
In the end, he was committed to raising his children after this and had no interest in letting acting possibilities get in the way of that. Moranis, though, has grown passionate about music and has even released a few albums.

Despite the fact that it seems like Cameron Diaz hasn't worked since declaring her retirement from acting, the actress is reportedly contemplating her alternatives. Diaz expressed her love for writing about health and wellness in an interview with InStyle, adding that she feels she has earned the right to take a vacation.
She stated, Right now, I'm examining the landscape of wellness and all that. However, whatever I do needs to be something I'm enthusiastic about and comes naturally.
Noah Hathaway – Tattoo Artist
In the iconic '80s film The Neverending Story, Noah Hathaway played the character Atreyu. But Hathaway has now shifted his focus to a number of different industries. The former child actress started teaching dancing but had to stop after getting hurt.
Hathaway has also worked as a tattoo artist and competed in supersport motorcycle racing. He claims to have tattooed the famous Auryn amulet that Atreyu wore in the film on a lot of his customers.
Zach Galligan – Student
It's unfortunate that Zach Galligan hasn't really lived up to the reputation he built for himself in the 1980s. He is most known to casual viewers for his part in the popular movie Gremlins.
After playing that role, the actor—who is now in his mid-50s—made the decision to take a break from acting in order to focus on his studies at Columbia University. His parents reportedly desired for him to have "a more steady career." Since then, he has collaborated on the CD The Clockwork Fable with the British prog-rock group Gandalf's Fist.

Willa Ford once thought highly of her chances of becoming a popular music artist. I Wanna Be Bad, the singer's hit track from 2001, peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. She released her second single on September 11 of that year, but she was never able to move past that.
Ford has been working full-time as an interior designer since giving up singing. She even started her own L.A.-based company, WFord Interiors, where she also serves as the lead designer.
Go-go dancer Blake McIver Ewing
A few Full House actors have appeared to have more success in fields other than acting. Consider Blake McIver Ewing, who achieved fame in 1994's The Little Rascals as Waldo Aloysius Johnston III.
The young man performed as a go-go dancer in Los Angeles in 2013. He said, "The advice was sound. In actuality, I raised a lot of money, he claimed. “Mission achieved! I completed my record.”
